What is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)?
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a type of psychotherapy that focuses on changing negative patterns of thinking and behavior in order to improve mental health and well-being. It is based on the idea that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are interconnected, and that by changing one, we can affect the others.
In CBT, the therapist and client work together to identify negative patterns of thought and behavior, and develop strategies to change them. This may involve identifying and challenging negative thoughts, learning coping skills to deal with difficult emotions, and practicing new behaviors to replace old, unhelpful ones.
CBT has been shown to be effective in treating a wide range of mental health conditions, including anxiety disorders, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and eating disorders. It is often used in combination with medication and other forms of therapy.
